Funding Changes Course For PCIP: Obamacare

PCIP is changing things 10 months prior to the start date, January 1st, 2014, when Obamacare is fully implemented. Some have already put a spin on it saying they are winding the program down for 2014. If you take a look at this source, according to PCIP.gov, they are suspending the program to help ensure that funds are available through 2013 to continuously cover people currently enrolled in PCIP. Every month the program enrolled people on the plan, the cost of the program has gone up. This will help control that cost.

They are already concerned about funds for 2014. The next question is, will this have an impact on the entire healthcare reform? It's too early to tell at this point. The government is already making moves to try to make sure they do by preventing some from receiving coverage between now and 2014. Once again, they are leaving people hanging out to dry.

What do people do between now and the end of the year?

Each state already have some type of high risk pool for those uninsurable. Some of them have a 6 month waiting period. The window is closing on if coverage will be payable until the end of the year. Eric Wilson, with I Sell Health, Inc., had an interesting post about doing a Short Term health insurance policy. I would check that post out here.

Limited benefit policies are an option, however, they are limited. If you have no other choice, then maybe. I have a problem with them. If you have anything new go on, it can impose a problem. The odds are in your favor that you will not have a major event, but is it worth the upside risk? One claim for cancer could go between 500K and 1Million within the first 12 months. It is better than nothing, but there is some risk.

Just evaluate it before making a jump. Some insurance agents are pretty good at making them sound good.
