I always like to go back to the President’s words, “If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.” Except here is the problem.. You cannot! All plans written before March 23rd 2010 we considered grandfathered, and those you can still keep. All plans written between march 2010 and December 31, 2013, will be cancelled. If you recall, many people got their cancellation letters last October with many carriers. Then the President in November of last year, when he saw the outrage by many Americans, said on National Television, that you could still keep your plan. Except his signature law the Affordable Care Act, says you cannot. See my video from November 15 2013. Many carriers still cancelled the policies at that time. Many allowed them to go forward. I personally was cancelled and got a new plan. My new plan which is still written prior to the ACA going into effect, send me a letter this week that I can keep that plan until 2017. I am guessing it will be cancelled at that time.
You see a large issue here is when a health insurance carrier prepares its rates, it is based on a risk factor, they made their rates assuming a guarantee issue plan with a lot of preventative mandates. Now you allow other type of plans and your predictions are off. So now add Humana to the companies who will cancel the plans written between March 23rd 2010 and December 31, 2014.
Open enrollment will being in November for all those with Humana to select a new plan with more than likely a higher deductible and a higher premium.
